Homeless Crisis Ireland

This news report describes the story of ‘Sam’, a five-year-old homeless boy, who was pictured eating his dinner off a cardboard box on the streets of Dublin in October. This event sparked outrage amongst the people of Ireland after the image of the boy was posted on Facebook by ‘The Homeless Street Café’ volunteer charity. The distressing photo of the back of ‘Sam’s’ body as he sits on the pavement eating his meal of carbonara has gone viral gaining over 11,000 reactions and shares on Facebook alone. The post has placed emphasis on the horrifying situation of the current homelessness crisis in Ireland and the impact that it is now having on the younger generation of our country. The image has grabbed the attention of individuals from all over Ireland and in particular has impacted Tanaiste, Simon Coveney, who describes the event as “unacceptable” along with Sinn Fein deputy leader, Pearse Doherty who uses the words “national shame” to report this current crisis that is underway. The volunteers of the “Homeless street café” organisation offer food, toiletries, clothes and most importantly friendship to the homeless every Tuesday night on Grafton street. There was clearly an overwhelming response from viewers of the post, however, the organisation responded to this reaction with ways in which these people could help prevent incidents as such happening to families like sams by volunteering thereseles or donating primary items to improve the situation sof homeless individuals. The homeless crisis in Ireland is never far from our minds due to its constant discussion in news and media. It is an issue which needs to be acted on immediately, in regard to the adults, parents, children and families which are being affected. a soloution needs to be developed immediately in order to save the citizens of our country. This story is only one of many that we hear daily corresponding to the crisis and its impact on irish familiaes.
